JPD makes drive-by shooting, drug arrests

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville police officers arrested a man Saturday after he fired shots near a residence, according to a Monday press release.

Ben Monroe was charged with deadly conduct, a third-degree felony, after officers responded to the 700 block of Davis Avenue for a shots fired call.

The complainant said Monroe had driven by the residence in a White Oldsmobile car and produced a long barrel shotgun and fired the weapon twice in the direction of the residence.  The complainant stated that prior to the shooting a fight had taken place on Davis Street, the release said.

Monroe was involved in a fight near the Lincoln Park basketball court area.  Monroe made a comment to the complainant for her to “not sleep lightly."  Later that evening, the complainant, observed Monroe driving near the residence.  Monroe produced a long barrel shotgun and shot one round in the air and then shot a second round toward the residence.

A JPD officer responded to Monroe’s residence and found the white Oldsmobile at the residence, and he saw Monroe sitting on the front porch. The officer was given consent to search the area for evidence in the shooting. He located a double barrel shotgun taken down into three pieces hidden in a dog house located in the back yard of Monroe’s residence.

 On Sunday, two JPD officers responded to the Lodge Apartments in reference to a person who held warrants. While waiting for someone to answer the door at an apartment, officers saw marijuana on a table through the window. Officers watched as the woman scraped the marijuana into a cup, the release said.

When the woman answered the door, the officer told her what he had witnessed. Three more suspects were located inside a bathroom of the apartment. A search of the apartment located approximately 484 grams of marijuana, numerous scales and drug paraphernalia.

The woman and three others were arrested:

Sherry Lightle, felony possession of marijuana;

Nathan Moore, felony possession of marijuana;

Robert Williams, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and numerous traffic warrants; and

Jordan Mathis, misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

One suspect fled the scene on foot. A warrant was issued for Jeffery Jones for felony possession of marijuana.
