SUV crashes into median during pursuit

CHEROKEE COUNTY — A driver wanted on a felony warrant was arrested Monday morning after crashing his vehicle into a median along U.S. Hwy. 69, between Jacksonville and Rusk.

David Bray, 51, sustained injuries and was transported to East Texas Medical Center after the wreck just south of the Cherokee County Airport, according to officials at the Jacksonville Police Department.

Officer John Shobert identified the driver of the Isuzu SUV prior to the wreck as Bray, who was believed to be possibly armed and dangerous. Bray was also known to have a felony warrant from Henderson County, officials said.

When Shobert attempted to stop Bray, he continued driving southbound, leaving Jacksonville on U.S. 69. Bray's vehicle turned around at Cherokee County Electric Co-Op and continued traveling northbound, officials said.

On Seven-mile Hill between Rusk and Jacksonville, the vehicle hit safety spikes set up on the highway, and veered left from the road before overturning into the median.

The extent of Bray's injuries were unknown. A CO2 pistol was found in his vehicle.

Traffic slowed along the southbound lanes of U.S. 69 for about an hour, but the scene was cleared about 11:30 a.m.

Multiple agenices responded, including JPD, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Rusk Fire Department.

No further information was available as of press time.
