ANDERSON COUNTY — The Anderson County Sheriff's Office has released the identities of a female victim and a male subject involved in what appears to be a murder-attempted suicide that occurred in Elkhart Wednesday morning.

At approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, the ACSO served a capital murder warrant with a $500,000 bond on Victor Aldaba Salcedo, 43, of Jacksonville. Salcedo is accused of the murder of Lorena Salas Salcedo, 42, of Elkhart, and is currently in a Tyler hospital after receiving a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the facial area.

“The capital murder charge stems from Salcedo illegally entering the home of his ex-wife, binding her and holding her against her will before ending her life,” Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor said. “An autopsy is being performed on the victim today in Tyler.”

According to Taylor, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of East Parker Street in Elkhart at about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers forced entry into a residence and discovered the deceased female and a male, found lying face down, but still breathing.

“The man had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the face,” Taylor said Wednesday. “He was transported by care-flight helicopter to a Tyler hospital and is in the ICU. We don't know his exact condition, but he is stable.”

The crime scene's proximity to the Elkhart Elementary School campus — just across the street — led to a brief lockdown of all EISD campuses for a brief period of time.

“We weren't sure where the man was when we arrived, so we asked the school to lock down as a precaution,” the sheriff said. “It was right on the corner there. I'm sure several people saw our officers there with guns drawn. We also closed traffic briefly.

“We are continuing the investigation with assistance of the Texas Rangers,” Taylor said.
