JACKSONVILLE — Firefighters from Jacksonville, Bullard and North Cherokee departments responded to a blaze at Maxwell Lumber Company Thursday afternoon.

According to JFD Fire Chief Paul White, his crews were first on the scene to the US Highway 69 N. location.

He said black smoke was visible, however after the initial dispatch, fire officials were told that a mobile home was on fire.

“We thought it was a lumber yard fire, but we get there and see the mobile home,” White said.

The structure was located on the company’s property. White said he was unsure if someone lived in the structure or not. The mobile home was a total loss.

“It was totally involved, and the wind had it whipped up real good,” White said.

The fire was reported just after 2 p.m., and White said it took about 40 minutes to control. No injuries were

reported.
