JHS group wins 23 awards at Kilgore event

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville High School Cherokee Charmers brought 23 awards – including the coveted Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence and a sweepstakes – from the Gussie Nell Davis Classic, held Jan. 25 at Kilgore College.

Most of the awards the team received were based on the score given by each judge per routine; the Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence was awarded to the team and its officers who competed in three different categories and received a score of 90 or higher from each judge.

In addition, each dance team and officer dance category the Charmers entered received a Judges Award, ranking 93 or higher by every judge.

The Jacksonville dance team also won the Biogime Sportsmanship Award, given by directors, based on class and sportsmanship towards other teams and directors.

Other awards include the Overall Academic Champion – the Charmers posted an overall team GPA of 3.562 – the “Best of the Best” award, in which the group scored a combined 863 points out of a possible 900.

They also received awards for Best in Class Officers, Best in Class Team, Best in Class Large Ensemble, Best in Class Medium Ensemble, Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence Team, Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence Officers, Judges Award Team Pom, Judges Award Team Jazz, Judges Award Team Novelty, Best Overall Precision Team, Best Overall Technique Team, Best Overall Projection Team, Best Overall Choreography Team, Judges Award Officer Jazz, Judges Award Officer Modern, Judges Award Officer Contemporary, Best Overall Precision Officers, Best Overall Technique Officers, Best Overall Projection Officers and Best Overall Choreography Officers.

The Cherokee Charmer Booster Club will host a celebration party at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Jacksonville High School

cafeteria.
