Local churches schedule VBS programs

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Churches throughout Cherokee County are putting their best foot forward as they share the Good News about God’s love through summer Bible school programs.

In Rusk, the local First United Methodist Church will present “Workshop of Wonders,” a June 15-19 program held from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly at 255 S. Henderson Street church. The program is for children in grades kindergarten through fifth; snacks will be provided daily. For additional information, please call 903-683-4675 or visit the website at www.ruskfumc.com.

Several programs will be held the week of June 16.

“The Amazing Road Trip – Discovering God's Purpose for Me” will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly Monday through Thursday at Sweet Union Baptist Church, 302 N. Main in Jacksonville. On Friday, family night begins at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Pastor Horace Williams, 903-586-4578.

Bullard’s First United Methodist Church, at 204 Rather Street, will host a program from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, titled “Weird Animals: Where Jesus' Love is one of a Kind.”

Youth ages three years to those just having completed fifth grade are invited to attend. On Sunday, June 22, program participants will sing songs at the 10:30 a.m. service, during which a slideshow of the week's activities also will be shown. Cornerstone Baptist Church will Rock the Block with two sessions of "Discover, Decide, Defend" vacation Bible school, from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly the weeks of June 16 and June 23.

The June 16-23 session will be held at the former Lon Morris College campus, while the June 23-27 session is at Nichols Green Park (Phase One).

Activities include free food, bounce houses, crafts and more for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. nightly. Hablamos español.

"Riding Strong with Jesus on the Cross Canyon Trail," a one-day program is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 28, is planned at Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church. For more information contact Jackie Morgan at 903-284-3710.

In Bullard, the First Baptist Church, located at 1428 S. Houston, will host “Agency D3” July 7-10 for children ages four to those entering sixth grade. The program – held from 9 a.m. to noon, focuses on “discover, decide and defend,” and features a different theme day. Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will present its annual Totus Tuus (“I am Yours”) program the week of July 14 in Jacksonville. A session for kids in Pre-K through sixth grade is from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., while youths in sixth grade and up meet from 5-9 p.m. This peer-based ministry is led by college students and incorporates fun projects with the teaching of scripture and Catholic tradition.
