Funeral services for Armen Darby, age 98 of New Summerfield, are scheduled for 3:00 pm Friday, April 3, 2009 at First Baptist Church, New Summerfield with Rev. Dr. Edwin Crank officiating.

Burial will follow at McDonald Cemetery, New Summerfield.

Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Darby passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in New Summerfield.

He was born August 6, 1910 in New Summerfield to Archie Guy Darby and Melinda Elizabeth Payne Darby.

He was a farmer and rancher and was deacon and past treasurer of First Baptist Church, New Summerfield, past director and president of Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association.

Mr. Darby is preceded in death by his wife Dorthy Darby, brothers Newman and Chester Darby and sister Gladys Underwood.

Survivors include daughter Elaine Beal and husband Wayne of Jacksonville; sister Irma Lee Chaney of Houston; three grandchildren and spouses Marcie and Mike Alberts, Audra and Danny Morris, and Laura and Ens. Adrian Laney USN; and four great grandchildren Thomas, Rebecca, Ariana and Darla.

Pallbearers will be Archie Underwood, Joe Taylor, Don Darby, Dr. Joe Hal Cunningham, Dr. Casey Cunningham, T. J. McKinney and Thomas Alberts.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to the Armen and Dorthy Darby Scholarship Fund at Jacksonville College B. J. Albritton Dr. Jacksonville, TX 75766.
