David Bruce Carney, 72, of Houston passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013. David was born in Bay City, Texas on April 7, 1941. He joins his late father, Walter Lee “Pat” Carney and late brother, Donald Carney. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Carney; children, Susan Carney Merida & husband Jason, Mark Carney & wife Katie; granddaughter, Emily Carney; mother, Ima Louise Carney; sister, Betty Wood as well as numerous other extended family and dear friends.
David was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He was the patriarch of the family and always had a smile on his face; a pipe or cigar in his hand and an answer for everything.
In his early years he served in the Air Force Reserves. David was a beloved member of the baseball community and could frequently be found at the Kyle Chapman Pony Field.
The Carney family will be present to receive friends Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 3 PM until 6 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Road, Houston, TX 77024. Interment services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 12 PM at McDonald Cemetery in New Summerfield, TX. Please direct flowers to Boren Conner Funeral Home, 750 S. Jackson St. in Jacksonville.
