Funeral services for Arvol J. King, age 79, of Rusk are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 22, 2012 in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Bradford and Rev. Dusty Lee officiating. Interment will be in McKnight Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.
Mr. King died Sept. 18, 2012 in a Tyler hospital. He was born April 21, 1933 in Olney to the late Ovelan and Juanita Clay King. Mr. King was a resident of Rusk since 2003 and was married Sept. 30, 1952 in Weatherford.
He was a lineman and a master electrician. Mr. King surrendered to ministry and moved his family to Jacksonville to attend college and seminary. He was ordained Oct. 2, 1967 at the Travis Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville and pastured churches in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Mr. King baptized his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was committed to providing for his family as well as being the spiritual leader of the family. He loved studying the Bible and even after he began living in the nursing home, he continued to attend worship services as often as his health allowed. Mr. King was loved by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Anatta King of Rusk, three daughters and sons-in-law, Dora and Gary Owens of White Oak, TX, Renda and Tira Sexton of Anderson, TX, Lacretia and Theron Montana of New London, TX, sister, Tarania Snell and husband Pat of Arlington, TX, sister-in-law, Carolyn Russell and husband Vernon of Odessa, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will include Ty Sexton, Brian Owens, Eric Rodriguez, Brian Snell, Allen Snell, Tim Cabra, Josh Snell and Steven Jeffries. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
