Ervin Carroll (E.C.) Moore, 74, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 2, 2012. E.C. was born on November 18, 1937 in Jacksonville, Texas, the second youngest of four brothers.
He is preceded in death by his father Erwin Moore, his mother Marguerite Moore, and his brothers Payne, Bobby, and Jerry Thomas Moore. He was married three times: in 1961 to Rosemary Garner, in 1974 to Bette Wiederhold, and in 2004 to Thu Nhi Barrus.
E.C. graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He received a B.A. in Accounting in 1959 from Stephen F. Austin University and joined the Audit practice of Price Waterhouse, earning his C.P.A. in 1963.
He subsequently held positions as Vice President of Finance at Medenco, Managing Partner at Elmer Fox, Westheimer & Co., independent oil and gas litigation consultant, and CFO of the Menil Foundation, from which he retired in 2007.Except for two years in Short Hills, New Jersey in the early ‘70s, he lived his entire adult life in Houston, Texas. E.C. was an art lover who enjoyed poetry, reading, hunting, fishing, and playing golf and tennis. He was a longtime member of the Houston Racquet Club. E.C. was a thoughtful and caring friend who will be remembered for his intelligence and acerbic wit. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. E.C. was a loving father who had a profound impact on the lives of his children. He will be deeply missed. E.C. is survived by his son Hunter Moore and wife Michelle of Lake Oswego, Oregon, his daughter Marilyn Moore Basso and husband Marcos of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren Augustine Basso, Delphina Basso, Savannah Moore and Sierra Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 4:00pm at The Houston Racquet Club, 10709 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Center for Coastal Conservation, Post Office Box 1388, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.
