JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Lucille (Nanny) O’Neal, age 87, of Rusk are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wed., May 29,  in First Congregational Methodist Church in Rusk with Dr. David Johnson, Dr. Gary Fitzgerald, Brother Ray Robbins and Raymond Vermillion officiating.  Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mrs. O’Neal passed away May 25, 2013 at her residence.  She was born Aug. 6, 1925 in Cherokee County to the late John Lee Lewis Sr. and Ida Jones Lewis.  Mrs. O’Neal was a charter member of the First Congregational Methodist Church in Rusk.  She was very active until ill health recently and was always there when possible and supported in every way possible.  She was a 50-plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #79 Alto/Rusk Chapter, a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary and former member of Beta Sigma Phi.  She was a retired LVN and Administrative Technician at Rusk State Hospital for over 30 years.  Lucille graduated from Maydelle High School in 1943 where she played basketball, (nickname Rough House), volleyball and baseball and loved every minute.  She played in a softball league after her children were in school and also coached her daughter Cheryl’s softball team.  She was always at her grandson Trent’s games and her van was always full of “Little Leaguers.”  She loved to travel and visited the Holy Land twice.  She and Cheryl loved to shop.  She was also a very good cook.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Glenn O’Neal, son, John Roger O’Neal, mother, Ida Lewis and father, John Lee Lewis Sr.  Also preceding her in death were several relatives, including brothers, Herbert Lewis and John Lee Lewis, brother-in-law, Robert Blain Tucker, just to name a few.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Watson and son-in-law, David Watson of Rusk, two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis Glenn and Connie O’Neal of Pottsboro, and Billy Jack and Felice O’Neal of Rusk, grandson, Trent O’Neal of Rusk, also, sister-in-law, Edna Tucker of Charlotte, N.C., step-grandchildren include, Kilee Adley, husband Kelley and their son Kade of Prosper, Texas, Lauree Threadgill, husband Ray and their two children, Riley and Gracie of Rusk, also, Joshua and Amber Watson and their children Haleigh, Kade and Kordie of Tyler, Chad and Tonya Walley and their two children, Blake and Braden, Brett and Zachary Jacobs and son Carlin, all of Rusk, Brandi Brown and husband Stephen and son Dylan of Chapel Hill,  special long time friend, Katherine Lindsey of San Antonio,  plus numerous nieces and nephews.  She loved you every one.

Pallbearers will be David Durrett, Ray Threadgill, Kelley Adley, John Knowles, Norman Lewis, Nolan Lewis and Chad Walley.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tues., May 28, at the funeral home.
