JACKSONVILLE — Memorial services for Carlton Joseph (Joe) Rumsey are pending at this time.

Mr. Rumsey passed away June 1st, 2014 at Twin Oaks Rehab. And Health, Jacksonville, Texas  after a long illness.  

He was born in Ithaca, New York on October 21, 1938.

He was a Methodist and attended the Central Baptist Sunday School at Twin Oaks facility.

He was preceded in death by his father Carlton Rumsey and mother, Lydia Smith, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, sister and cousins.

His survivors include son, Carl Rumsey of Syracuse, NY; sister, Candace Sweeney and husband Bob of Syracuse, NY; grandchildren Ashton Rumsey, Bobby, Callie and Amelia Sweeney all of Syracuse NY; Clarence Rumsey of Ithaca, NY; sister, Candace Reneau and husband, Larry of Jacksonville, Texas; several cousins in NY and Florida; several nieces and nephews in NY, So. Carolina and Texas.  

After graduating from Dryden, NY High School, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY for a short time, then on to AT&T and United Radio in Syracuse, NY where he worked in land and marine electronics for most of his life.  Divorced in 1976 and moved to Louisiana. From there went to Hot Springs, AR and Freeport, Tx.

Pulmonary problems relegated him to a nursing home for the past 13 years. He donated his body to Texas A&M Science.  

He enjoyed his work and was considered a workaholic.  He held a pilots license while in NY and loved flying and the beach.  

He was absent from his children, but loved them very much and very proud of what they have accomplished in their lives.    

He was a gentle soul and will be missed.
