Joseph George McCarthy

CLUTE — Joseph George McCarthy passed from this life on June 16, 2014 in Clute, TX. He was born on January 31, 1936 in Sandy Lake, LA to John and Ruby McCarthy.

After graduating from Ysleta High School, George came to Clute in 1956 to work at Dow where he worked in the Plant A Mag Cells and Saltgrass Power Plant until his retirement in 1988. George spent his retirement years in Jacksonville, TX and Jonesville, LA where he enjoyed tomato farming, hunting, fishing, and helping family and friends with projects great and small. George was truly one of the good guys and will be missed.

George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby McCarthy; wife, Bonnie McCarthy; brother, Alvin “Tink” McCarthy; and grandson, Patrick McCarthy.

George is survived by his brother, Johnnie “Bud” McCarthy and wife, Pat, of El Paso; son, Eddie McCarthy and wife, Mary, of Brazoria, TX; daughter, Debra Sue Houck and husband, Dennis, of Cape Girardeau, MO; grandchildren, Justin McCarthy, Cory McCarthy, Alan McCarthy, Zachary McCarthy, Joshua Cunningham and wife, Heather, Heather Cunningham-Diaz; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Gutierrez, Blake Diaz, Tabitha Diaz, and Hannah Ballard.

Honorary pallbearers are Patrick McCarthy, Justin McCarthy, Cory McCarthy, Alan McCarthy, Zachary McCarthy, and Joshua Cunningham.

Graveside service will be at Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery in Jacksonville, TX on June 21, at 2:00.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to the Manifest LA Volunteer Fire Department.
