Funeral services for James Carlton (Jimmy) Lanier, age 68, of Rusk are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.
James Carlton Lanier, or Jimmy, as he was known, was born March 14, 1945 in Rusk to Viva Yarbrough Lanier and Homer Carlton Lanier and passed from this earth to meet with the Lord on February 6, 2014 at ETMC Jacksonville after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Lanier was a lifelong resident of Rusk and attended Rusk High School. He worked as a painter with his dad and brother and also worked at Rusk State Hospital. Mr. Lanier was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rusk, an avid hunter and fisherman, had a good sense of humor, loved his dogs and had close family ties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Lessie and E.R. Yarbrough, J.O. and Viola Lanier, special cousin, Harold Denny Wood. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Marsha Lanier of Beulah, two sons, James Denny Lanier of Aiea, Hawaii, Stacy Lanier and wife Jenica of Escondido, CA, daughters, Melissa Miller of Rusk, Kay Williams of Gun Barrel City, TX, sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Billy Lovelady of Rusk, brother and sister-in-law, Billy Don and Susan Lanier of Reklaw, seven grandsons, seven granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, special cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will include Larry Crosby, Jason Lanier, James Sanchez, Tony Lanier, Steven Lovelady, Bruce Stewart and Bobby Nolley. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the funeral home.
