JACKSONVILLE — Private memorial services for Roy Shackelford Ross, age 79, will be held at a later date by the family in the home of Roy and Mona Ross. Eulogy by Rebecca Kay Leland.
Mr. Ross passed away July 4, 2014, at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX. He was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas. Roy also was a member of the 1952 state champion mile relay team of Jacksonville.
After 20 years with the Tyler Independent School District, he retired as the Coordinator of Maintenance. He was a Master Electrician and a resident of Jacksonville for 31 years. Roy was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. His favorite hobby was playing dominoes with family.
Roy Shackelford Ross was born on October 4, 1934, in Mexia, TX, to Clarence Shackelford Ross and Alice Isabel Stevens Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mona Kay Ross of Jacksonville; two sons, Mark Alan Ross and wife Melinda, and Ray Dean Ross and wife Jessica; two daughters, Linda M. Brandon and husband Donald, and Alice D. Weissman and husband George; three brothers, Robert J. Ross and wife Brooke, Guy Thomas Campbell, and Gordon K. Campbell and wife Sue; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials – in lieu of flowers – be made to the Naomi Sunday School Class in care of Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville, TX.
