Calvin C. Dotson

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Calvin C. Dotson, age 88, of Jacksonville are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Dr. Darin Wood and Rev. Steve Edwards officiating.  Interment will follow at Still Waters Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mr. Dotson passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 16, 1925 in New Summerfield, TX to Harmon and Bessie Dotson. On January 13, 1947, he married Tommie Ruth Tennison. Calvin served in World War II. He worked for Child’s Grocery Company for 10 years and retired from Bealls after 33 years as warehouse manager. Mr. Dotson also was a basketball referee in the surrounding Jacksonville area.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville for over 60 years. He was the oldest living member of the Goodfellows Sunday School class having served as President and Secretary/Treasurer. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Wyatt Dotson.  

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Tommie Ruth Dotson; daughters, Judy Terry and husband Sandy, Rita Ballard and husband Joe; grandsons, Scott Terry and wife Mary Ann, Todd Terry and wife Julie; granddaughters, Brandi Roppolo and husband Justin, Tiffany Hoffpauir and husband Micah, great-grandchildren; Janzen, Nicholas, Toby, Zac and Georgia Kate Terry, Jessica, Kyle and Reagan Roppolo, Addyson and Hudson Hoffpauir. He is also survived by his sister, Amaryllis Campbell; sister-in-law, Marjorie Dotson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tom Goodson, Billy McCutcheon, Charles Sessions, Jeff Beall, Chris Beall, Jonathan Beall, Dale Dotson, Randy Tennison, and Larry White.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Goodson, Ray Beall, Royce Beall, Gary Cavazos, Steve Stevens, Glen Horn, Jimmy Hines, Gary Clem, Larry Shank, and the Goodfellows Sunday school class.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to the Goodfellows Scholarship Fund at Central Baptist Church 1909 E. Rusk St, Jacksonville, Texas 75766.
