Dr. Charles Edward Derrick, Jr.

JACKSONVILLE — Visitation for Dr. Charles Edward Derrick Jr. will be at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Tues., Nov. 27,  from 5 - 6 p.m.  The Rosary Service led by Father Mark Kusmerik will follow at 6 p.m.  A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 28,  at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville with Father Mark Kusmerik officiating.

Burial will be held at Still Waters Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville.

 Dr. Derrick was born July 6, 1922 in Beaumont.  Following a lengthy illness, Dr. Derrick, 90, passed away Sat., Nov. 24, 2012 in Jacksonville.

Dr. Derrick graduated from Rusk High School and attended Sam Houston State College.  He was a proud veteran of World War II having served from 1942 to 1945.  He flew 51 bombing missions in a B-24 Liberator named “Menacing Messalina”.  After the war he attended the University of Texas Dental School in Houston, Texas, graduating in 1950.  He was in private practice in Jacksonville for many years before joining the staff of the Rusk State Hospital in 1968 and then the Texas Department of Corrections in 1972, retiring in 1985.  He was a long time member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean Derrick of Jacksonville, and his daughter Carol Derrick and her husband Joe Lazo of Garland.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Matilda Derrick of Jacksonville and a sister, Louise Witt of Waco.

Pallbearers include Randy Swanson, Speedy Peacock, Joe Peacock, Bud Ridgley, Brian Ridgley, and Buzz Owens.

Memorial may be sent to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church building fund, 1023 Corinth Road, Jacksonville, TX  75766.
