Ross Jefferson Hunt

JACKSONVILLE — Ross Jefferson Hunt, 77, of Jacksonville, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2014.           

He was born to the late Thomas Jefferson and Clara Bell Hunt, May 20, 1936, in Hallsville, Texas.  Ross married Dorothy Jean Norton Hunt in June of 1960, and they lived together in Longview, Texas, before relocating to Jacksonville, Texas in 1988.

A lifetime East Texas resident, Ross was a firefighter for the Longview Fire Department for twenty-two years before retiring as a Lieutenant, then working for the Jacksonville and Rusk School Districts until the end of his career.  He was a member of the Mt. Selman Baptist Church and Mason Lodge #108 in Jacksonville, Texas, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1996-1997.  An avid fisherman, he loved spending time on the lake with his family.  His most prized possessions were his family and loved ones who brought joy and happiness into his life.

Ross is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ed Malner and Billy Ray Hunt, and his sisters, Beatrice, Erma, Dorothy, and Thelma.

Ross is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; daughter, Robin Webb of Rusk; daughter, Angela Hardy and husband Tony of Rusk; granddaughters, Cassie and Courtney Webb, Robin Shipman Hardy, and Emma Hardy; and grandson, Waylen Hardy; brother, James Hunt and wife Martha; sister, Virginia Dortch and husband Richard; brother-in-law, David Norton and wife Ramona; brother-in-law Dennis Norton and wife Nancy; brother-in-law, Byron Norton and wife Sandy and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be the Longview Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard.

The family expresses appreciation to Hospice of East Texas who assisted in Ross’ care.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to Hospice of East Texas at 4111 University Blvd. Tyler, Tx 75701.

Graveside services will be at 2 P.M. on Monday, March 24, 2014, in Harrison County, at the Gum Springs Cemetery, 2250 Gum Sprints Road, Longview, Texas, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Texas.
