Funeral services for Larry Wayne Hassell, age 69, of Reklaw are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sat., May 18 in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Walles and Bro. Jerry Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Walker Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.
Mr. Hassell died May 15, 2013 in a Tyler hospice. He was born Feb. 29, 1944 in Rusk to the late Robert Leonard and Tommie Gill Hassell. Mr. Hassell was a resident of Reklaw for over 30 years where he owned/operated Hassell Grocery for 15 years and lived in the Houston/Conroe area for 16 years where he worked as a draftsman for Fluor Corporation. He also worked for Howe Baker Engineering and Challenger Tank Mfg. in Tyler. Mr. Hassell was a member of Reklaw Baptist Church and loved to golf and solve all types of puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Maxine Hassell Gayle, brother, Billy Rex Hassell. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Andra Hassell of Reklaw, son and daughter-in-law, Les and Erin Hassell of Kilgore, daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Gary Starkey of Rusk, two grandchildren, Dylan Starkey of Rusk, Delaney Starkey of Rusk, brother, R.C. Hassell of Tyler, sister, Bobbie McGregor and husband Carroll of Jacksonville, special aunt, Lottie Sullivan of Lake Murvaul, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will include Les Hassell, Gary Starkey, Dylan Starkey, Kenny Black, Bobby Brooks and Chris VonDoenhoff. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Fri., May 17, at the funeral home.
