Funeral services for Kanashi Von’Shea Johnson-Gayle, 38, Tyler, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Hollie officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co. Mrs. Gayle died Feb. 16, 2014, at Mother Frances Hospital.
Mrs. Gayle was born Aug. 29, 1975, in Cherokee County. She was a graduate of Jacksonville High School Class of 1993, received an associate degree from Jacksonville Baptist College, bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University and was currently pursuing a master’s degree from Ashford University.
Kanashi was a 10-plus year resident of Smith County and was a member of The Church of South Las Vegas. She was an Eastern Star, in 2008 enrolling in the Narvell Ashley No. 2010 Chapter and transferred in 2010 to Genesis No. 1 Chapter and served actively until 2012.
She was the chapter treasurer, coordinated community service and fundraisers, and chapter outing. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Epsilon Rho.
Preceding her in death are maternal grandmother, paternal grandparents, and two uncles.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony L. Gayle, Tyler; one son, Hezekiah Hollis O’Shae Gayle, Tyler; one daughter, Zakiyah La’Shay Whaley, Tyler; father, Reginald Johnson, Jacksonville and mother, Doris Reed, Tyler; five brothers, Keennon Howard (Chandra), Tyler, Otis Richardson and Donyell Richardson, both of Jacksonville, Michael Baker, Tyler, and Sha’Kendrick Tilley, Jacksonville; three sisters, Regina Johnson, Ashley Johnson and Erika Franklin, all of Jacksonville; maternal grandfather, Hollis Reed, Jacksonville; inlaws, Lenore and Michael Mironchik, Fresh Meadows, N.Y.
Visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at John R. Harmon Undertaking Co.
