Joan Evans Everett

CHANDLER — Joan Evans Everett died on March 3, 2014.

Born in Chandler, Texas on September 23, 1927, she was the only child of John Douglas Evans and Claudia Meecom Evans.  During her youth, she lived in Alto, Texas.  Joan received her BBA from Sam Houston and her Masters from Stephen F. Austin.

She married James Everett in 1949.  From 1947 to 1982 she served the Jacksonville Independent School System, teaching in high school and grade school and administering the Title 9 Program.

Joan was joyous and full of hope.  Like her father, she was intrigued by life’s mysteries and the complex interrelationships that create each individual.  She saw each person as a unique combination of gifts, burdens, talents, challenges, and love.  She truly emulated Joan of Arc, after whom she was named.

Joan died suddenly and unexpectedly.  Hours before her death, she was joking and laughing.  Her presence was always a comfort and she made even the most difficult situations somehow lighter.  Her humanness made her real.

Joan is survived by Barry Mac Perkins and James Mark Everett.
