Thelma Lorena Butler Ward

JACKSONVILLE — Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."

Thelma Lorena Butler Ward was born September 11, 1911, the first child of Landon Carter and Winnie Butler of the Palestine area.  On November 14, 2012, just as the sun had begun to set, Lorena took her final journey home.  Greeted by her Lord and Savior and a multitude of family and friends, she is now experiencing a wonderful reunion in Heaven.

Lorena, 101 years of age, lived a long life filled with happy days on "The Farm" as she referred to the home she so loved in the West Shady Grove area.  She loved to garden as was seen by the many hours she would spend canning vegetables in the summer months.  In later years you would find her quilting and sharing patterns with friends and relatives.  Her quilts were priceless and given as gifts of love.  Later in her life you would find her reading.  There was always reading material of some form around her.  She explained how when growing up she didn't get to read a lot because there were chores to be done and helping with the younger children.  Lorena loved her church and church family at Pleasant Grove and shared her faith with all those around her.  She was a very special lady who taught us so many things by watching her, always caring for and helping those in need.  We will miss her greatly and we know she is now resting in the arms of Jesus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter Toni Rene' Ward, loving husband, Lucius Ward, son, Lucius Ward, Jr., sisters, Edna Earl Sims, Doris Hill and Dorothy Ward; brothers, Clyde and Arnold Ray Butler.  She is survived by her granddaughter Amanda Braswell and great grandson, Dylan of Frisco, sister Johnnie Simmons and brother, L. J. "Buddy" Butler of Palestine, sister-in-law, Patty

Ward, many nieces and nephews who are proud to call her "Aunt Lorena".

Services for Lorena will be Tues., Nov. 20,   at 10 a.m. at Boren-Conner Funeral home Chapel with Chaplain Keith Hague and Rev. M. T. Blackmon officiating.  Burial will follow in West Shady Grove Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be John Nance, Brent Nance, John Kurtz, John Barber, Glen Wilburn and Roger Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
