JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Margaret (Helm) Smith, age 91, formerly of Rusk, will be 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.  She resided with her daughter, Sharon Pope and son-in-law Neal Pope of Grand Prairie.   

Family visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.  Bro Floyd Gaston will officiate the service and William Vaught, longtime family friend will share precious memories of Ms. Smith.  Burial will follow at Atoy Cemetery.

Margaret (Helm) Smith died Thurs., Jan. 3, 2013 in Baylor Irving Hospital in Irving.  Margaret retired form Rusk State Hospital and started her quilting business, Margaret’s Machine Quilting, which was her passion.  She was featured twice in the Cherokee County Co-Op magazine.

Margaret was born July 6, 1921 in Palestine.  

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Eva Rice, sons, Leroy Helm, Waylon Helm, William Arthur Helm and daughter, Mary Jane Helm, one brother and six sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Harlan of Atlanta, Ga., Sharon Pope and son-in-law, Neal Pope of Grand Prairie, and Nancy Adams of Jacksonville, daughter-in-law, Dolores Helm of Grand Prairie, brother, Coy Rice and sister-in-law Alice Rice of Athens,  sister-in-law, Mary Helm of Alto, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and longtime friends Lois Mims of Jacksonville and Rita Wiggins of Rusk.    

Grandsons Dennis Lusk, Jason Helm, Roger Pope, Shawn Pope, Bryan Helm and Jeffrey Helm will serve as pallbearers.
