Funeral Services for Joe Smelley, 65, of Jacksonville and formerly of Cushing will be Fri., Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ennis Fuller officiating. Burial will be held in the McKnight Cemetery under the direction of Dickie Allen Funeral Directors.
Mr. Smelley died Monday in Tyler. He was born June 26, 1947 in Cushing to Walter Lee and Rosana Pitman Smelley. He was married to his wife for 35 years. He was born and raised in Cushing and he and his wife lived in Jacksonville for 35 years. He was a Protestant and was a lifetime member of the DAV. He loved whittling, fishing, and reading westerns. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill, Max, and Ray Smelley, and sister Bobbie Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years Martha Smelley of Jacksonville; daughters and son-in-law Donna Atwood of Rockwall; Melissa Ann Oliver of Cushing; step daughter Dorothy and Husband Stan Brown of Jacksonville; brothers and sister-in-law Buck Smelley of Cushing; Jerry and Jean Smelley of Athens; sisters and brother-in-law Ruby and Billy Max Hasley of Nacogdoches; Dollie Faye Labosky of Nacogdoches; grandchildren Brandon Oliver, Mackenzie Atwood, Amy True, Catherine Uribes; great grandchildren Christian, Robert, and Drake Uribes and umerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thurs., Jan. 17 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing.
