JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for James Weldon Smith, age 84, of Jacksonville are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tues., July 23, at People’s Church in Jacksonville with Brother David Butler officiating.  Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Providence Cemetery.

Mr. Smith passed away Wed., June 17 in Jacksonville. He was born Nov. 9, 1928 in Winters, Texas to Rufus and Vada Smith.

Mr. Smith was the President, Co-Founder and Co-Owner of B&D Fire & Safety. He was a member of People’s Church. He loved hunting and fishing and raised and trained bird dogs.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Dee Smith; daughters Cathy Nichols and husband Nick and Terrie Yielding all of Jacksonville; sons Jim Smith of Oyster Creek, Texas. Gary Smith and wife Kristi of Athens, and Jimmy Drounette of Bellingham, Wash.; brother Elton Smith of Winters; sisters Joanne Harlan of Conroe and Pauline Proctor of Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Daniel Yielding, Michael Smith, Stephanie Nichols, Ceresa Lambert, Jamie Smith, James Smith, Natalie Smith and Chrystal Smith; several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Yeilding, Mort Smith, James Bacon, Charles Yarbrough, Blake Bailey and Bill Permemter.

Visitation will be held between 1 - 3 p.m. Tues., July 23 at People’s Church in Jacksonville.
