Donald Lewis Haberle

JACKSONVILLE — A funeral Mass for Donald Lewis Haberle will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thurs., July 25,  at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jack-sonville.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wed., July 24, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler.

Donald Lewis Haberle, age 74, joined his heavenly father Sunday evening, July 21, after battling lung cancer for four months. Don was born and raised in Jack-sonville. He graduated from UT Austin in 1961. Soon after he joined the Navy, and became a 2nd Lieutenant. While in the Navy he met and married Darlene Exely in 1962. He moved to Louisville, KY and raised his family while working as Vice President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield. In 1990 he returned to his hometown of Jacksonville, acquired his teaching certification and worked for the State Prison in Rusk. He married his second wife Linda Smith in 2004. He retired in 2005. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Don was passionate about his Catholic faith and spent much of his time in devout prayer, attending Mass, and reading about the life of Christ. His hobbies included wood carving and fishing with family and friends.

 He is preceded in death by father; F.L Haberle of Jacksonville, first wife; Darlene Exely Haberle of Louisville, Ken., and mother; Ruth Webb Haberle of Jacksonville.

He is survived by wife; Linda Smith Haberle of Tyler son; Michael Haberle and wife Kim of Louisville, Ken., daughter Leigh Ann Maldon-ado and husband Robert of Buda, sister; Marianna White and Dr. Raleigh White of Temple, brother; David Haberle and wife Carol Ann of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; Michael Haberle Jr, Tayler Haberle, Kristina Haberle, Nicolas Maldonado, Kara Maldonado, Aracely Maldonado, two step children; Melody Wilson and Randy Smith, three step grandchildren; Sara Beth Wilson, Ross Smith, Ryan Smith, and nieces and nephews.

Family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701 or to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 1023 Corinth Rd., Jacksonville, Texas 75766.
