RUSK — Memorial services for Kenneth Edward Foster, age 78, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 7, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Rusk, Texas. Dr. George Durance will officiate the memorial service with visitation immediately following. Ken passed away on Monday, June 2 at home with his family by his side. He was born on April 18, 1936, in Phillips, Texas to Claude and Ruth Foster. Ken served in the Marines after high school, then attended Prairie Bible College in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. There he met and married Marilyn Justine McElheran on September 28, 1963.

Early on in their marriage Ken and Marilyn felt a call to missions, specifically to minister to children of missionaries. They began their missionary journey serving with SIM International in Nigeria, then traveled back to the states where Ken completed his degree at Stephen F. Austin University. Ken coached in Snyder, Texas for five years while completing his Master’s Degree at Sul Ross State University. Receiving the call to return to missions, they served with GMU/Avant Ministries in Quito, Ecuador for five years where Ken was a teacher and coach at Alliance Academy. Ken, Marilyn and family continued to serve in missions at his greatest love, Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany for twenty years. Ken and Marilyn retired from the mission field in 2002 and moved to Lindale, Texas where they served as support staff at Mercy Ships International for six years. To be closer to their children and grandchildren, they moved to Rusk, TX in 2009 and continued to minister to others at Elijah’s Retreat, a safe haven for families facing autism. Ken began a battle with cancer and courageously fought for five years with strength, grace, humor, and determination before this gentle and humble servant joined his savior on June 2, 2014. He lived a life of passion for his Lord, his students, and his family.

In addition to his beloved wife of 50 years, Marilyn, Ken is survived by two daughters Heather De la Rosa and husband Matias, daughter Valerie Murray and husband Mike, grandchildren Marilyn and Joshua De la Rosa and Michael and Sarah Murray, a sister Sheila Zuerblis, a brother Cozelle Foster and wife Marcy, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elijah's Retreat on their website www.elijahsretreat.com or by mail at PO BOX 2405 Jacksonville, TX 75766 in memory of Ken Foster.
