Thomas E. Pate, Sr.

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Rev. Thomas E. Pate Sr., age 77, of Rusk are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tues., Oct. 23,  in Covenant Church On The Hill in Rusk with the Pate children conducting.  Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mr. Pate died Oct. 20, 2012 in a Rusk nursing home.  He was born Jan. 23, 1935 in San Augustine to the late John Woodville Pate and Ima Mildred Wyatt Pate.

Mr. Pate was a resident of Rusk since 1963 and a Minister in Rusk for 49 years.  He pastored First United Pentecostal Church in Rusk presently known as Covenant Church On The Hill.  

Mr. Pate was known as “Red” while working for Brown & Root Co. and H.B. Zachary as a heavy duty crane operator.  

His favorite hobbies were his horses, especially, (L.T.), his beloved half Morgan, half Tennessee Walker, and raising his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

Preceded in death by a sister, Johnnie Ruth Husband, two brothers, Barnett Wayne Pate, Gaston Earl Pate, son, Thomas Elton (Tom Ell) Pate Jr.  Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Glendale Pate of Rusk, two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Pam Pate of Jacksonville, Jan and Susan Pate of Rusk, brother, Kelvin Ray Pate of Houston, sister, Martha Ann and James Gallaway of Troup, sisters-in-law, Kathleen Pate, Helen Pate, three aunts, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will include Joey Pate, Steven Pate Jr., Spencer Pate, Dannon Pate, Jeremy Pate, Jan Michal Pate, Jeremy Driver and Rodrigo “Lupe” Torres.  An honorary pallbearer will be Ed Burden.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Mon., Oct. 22,  at Covenant Church On The Hill in Rusk.  

If desired, memorials may be made to Covenant Church On The Hill in memory of Thomas E. Pate Sr., 475 CR 1619, Rusk, TX 75785.
