Roy Cobble Kennedy

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Roy Cobble Kennedy, age 92, of Rusk are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wed., May 22,  in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.S. Dyess and Harold Dement officiating.  Interment will be in Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mr. Kennedy passed away May 18, 2013 in a Jacksonville nursing home.  He was born April 30, 1921 in Cherokee County to the late Joe Little  and Matilda Tannery Kennedy.  Mr. Kennedy was a longtime resident of Cherokee County and a retired dairy farmer and rancher.  He served in the United States Army in Korea and Japan in Company H, 17th Infantry as a rifleman and cook.  Mr. Kennedy was a member of Oakland Missionary Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by a son, Roy Kennedy Jr., brothers, Wade Kennedy and Josie Kennedy, sisters, Nellie Gray and Ella Traylor.  Survivors include wife, Louise Kennedy of Rusk, daughters and sons-in-law, Reta and Forrest Dyess of Jacksonville, Esther and R.S. Dyess of Rusk, grandsons, Kenny Dyess, Keith Dyess, Steven Dyess and Bobby Kennedy, granddaughters, Cathy Newman, Terrie Sadler, Debbie Welch, Lesa Jones, Janae Halbert, Theresa Gates and Tawnya Tetherow, 26 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, sisters, Ethel Parsons of Rusk, Mary Parsons of Lewisville, Texas, brother, William Kennedy of Rusk, several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will include Kenny Dyess, Keith Dyess, Steven Dyess, Bobby Kennedy, Dennis Kennedy, Roy Traylor and Rodney Newman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Willis, Talley Holland, Bobby Jack Parsons, Lewie Byers and Charles Dement.  

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tues., May 21 at the funeral home.
