Tim Smith

JACKSONVILLE — A memorial service for Tim L. Smith, age 70, of Jacksonville is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thurs., Aug. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with the Reverend Michael Lewis officiating. The service will be under the direction of Autry Funeral Home. A private graveside service was held on Tuesday at Still Waters Memorial Garden.

Tim passed away suddenly on Mon., Aug. 5. He was born Feb. 5, 1943 in Jacksonville to Oscar and Christene Smith.  Tim graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1961 and from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1965. In November 1972, Tim Established the Tim L. Smith, CPA Firm in Jacksonville.

Tim was a friend to all he came in contact with, a people person who touched many lives and made each one better for his being part of it. Tim was well-known for his story telling; he loved to travel and entertain family and friends. All who knew Tim loved his zest for life and his kind, loving demeanor.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Julie Ann Duren Smith of Jacksonville; his parents, Oscar and Christene Smith of Jacksonville; his sons, Tim Smith, Jr. of Jacksonville and TSgt. (RET USAF) Troy Smith and wife Fraley of Shawnee, Okla; his daughter, Tiffany Jacobson and husband Bradley of Jacksonville; his brother, Terry D. Smith and wife Julie of Dallas.  He was known as “Pops” to all eight of his grandchildren: Christine, Tyler, and Isaac Smith, Katherine, Anna, and Audrey Jacobson, Kelsey and Leah Smith; one great-grandchild, Cheri Beck. He is survived by many cousins and wonderful friends whose lives will never be the same.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the Tim L. Smith Scholarship Fund at Jacksonville Education Foundation, PO Box 631, Jacksonville, Texas 75766.
