JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for John W.  “Billy” Cates, 81, of Alto will be Sun., Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. at the O.T. Allen and Son funeral home chapel with Bro. Gary Pridmore and Chaplain Roy Hall officiating.  Burial will follow at Lynches Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Cates died Thursday in Alto.  He was born Dec. 29, 1931 to John Earle and Mary Vera Dominy Cates in Alto.  He was a lifetime resident of Alto and a member of the First Baptist Church.  He served  in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Seargent after serving in Korea.  He worked as a dairyman, a mechanic and  for the Texas Dept. of Corrections as a guard where he retired.  He was a member of the Alto Masonic Lodge, Terrell Lodge #83.  He is preceded in death by his parents,  Brothers Francis and J.D.  Sisters Lee Iris and Mary.

Survivors include wife: Louetta Bice Cates of Alto; daughters and son-in-law: Cynthia and Cameron Bradfute of New Braunfels, Sandra and Van Wilson of Schertz, Melanie and Tracy Parker of Alto; Terrie and Bobby Housman of Corpus Christi, Vickie Lynn Smith of Jacksonville; grandchildren: Bo Bradfute, Haley Bradfute, Paige Wilson, Trevor Wilson, Selena Parker, Emily Parker, Kayce Housman, Justin Housman, James Sweatt, Chris McAllister , and Alyssa  and Trevor Rhoadarmer; great grandchildren Amelia Grace and Chris McAllister; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends: Virgie Lovell and Rubi Hernadez.

Special thanks to his long time friends and care givers at Woodland Heights Medical Center, Hospice in the Pines, Dr. Karnati, Dr. Kovvali, and Dr. Benetiz.

Visitation will be held Sun., Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. before the funeral at the funeral home in Alto.
