JACKSONVILLE — Claudean (Dean) Ray, 80, went to be with his Maker surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 23, 2013, at Hospice of East Texas Home Place, after a long and valiant battle with bladder cancer. He was born in Brownsboro on Dec. 19, 1932.

Dean was a longtime employee of R. C. Buckner Construction Company of Jacksonville and worked on construction of many roads and bridges throughout the state of Texas. Following that, he was owner/operator of Ray & Sons Lumber Company of Jacksonville.

Claudean is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Koen Ray; sons, Jimmy Ray, Greg Ray, Donnie Ray and wife Karen, John Ray and wife Nannette, all of Jacksonville; Ronnie Ray and wife Natascha of Bowie, Rick Macoy of Canton, Lonnie Jimerson of Jacksonville, Frank Farmer of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Josh Ray, April Ray, Brandon Ray, Matthew Ray, Anthony Thigpen, all of Jacksonville, Stephen Ray of Plano, John Macoy of Canton, Jonas and Dina Ray of Bowie; great-grandson, Aaron Ray McKinley of Jacksonville; brothers, Bob Ray and wife Lillie of Jacksonville, Benny Ray and wife Leesa of Henderson; sister, Bertha Zoellner and husband Tim of Benton, Ark; sisters-in-law, Margaret Koen Benedict and husband James of Bryan, Cathy Koen and husband Edward, Letha Ray, both of Jacksonville; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Dean was preceded in death by parents, Clyde and Estelle Ray; brothers, Clyde Ray, Jr., Odell Ray, Wesley Ray; and sister, Marbra Surber Ray.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Fri., Oct. 25, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Graveside services will be at Tecula Cemetery (off FM 2064) at 10 a.m. Sat., Oct. 26 with Craig Koen and Mark Koen officiating.

Sons will be serving as pallbearers.
