Animal shelter’s neuter fees too high

For those of you who don’t read my column, my little Pekingese dog, Inky, passed away on Feb. 20. He was a great pal and the best writing partner a guy could have. And, the folks who do read Inky and John all know I’m looking for another Peke.

I have called and e-mailed all over this part of Texas and have not had much luck, so the other day when someone called from Klein Animal Shelter in Jacksonville to tell me they had exactly what I had been hoping for, I was naturally overjoyed. Then he told me the adoption fee was $150, which did not include the neuter fee, and I was very disappointed because we (Libby and I) are retired and on a fixed income. There was no way we could afford to pay the adoption fee, then pay for a neuter, so, regrettably, I had to pass.

I don’t know where the dog came from, but I do know they had invested very little in him and it is possible he came from Tyler, which means they are being paid $102,000 per year to care for him and others like him.

I’m still looking, so, if anyone out there has a Peke they need to find a home for, PLEASE don’t take him to Klein Animal Shelter. Call me at 903-795-3995 or e-mail john@inkyandjohn.com.
