Commissioner’s actions warrant investigation

Tammy Beard wrote a letter to the editor of the Jacksonville Daily Progress published Monday, April 21, 2008. The letter dealt with corruption and wrongdoing by Cherokee County commissioners and the county judge. My letter is about one commissioner and his foreman of Precinct 3.

In May of 2006, complaints were filed with the Sheriff’s Department regarding illegal use of county tax money, equipment, materials and labor on private property. In February of that year, Precinct 3 built a private driveway approximately 125 feet off the right of way on 243 County Road 3906 for the foreman’s son. This complaint was given to the District Attorney of Cherokee County, who has had it for almost two years with no investigation of the complaint. The first year the DA’s excuse was the Texas Rangers were investigating the complaint. The second year, the DA’s excuse was he was busy and had no extra time to investigate this complaint. This is one of five complaints filed against the Cherokee County Precinct 3 and his foreman.

Tammy Beard wrote of corruption and wrongdoing in her letter. In this letter, I think it is about one elected official protecting another.
