‘Law Abiding Citizen’ offers mystery, intrigue

The premise of Law Abiding Citizen (rated R, 108 minutes) is that the criminal justice system should not make deals with murderers.

Gerard Butler proceeds to teach Jamie Foxx this lesson after Butler loses his family and one of the perpetrators gets off too easy for his crime. Bad guys are made to suffer and bodies fall in old Philadelphia.

This is not a simple vigilante justice story like Death Wish was.

There is mystery and intrigue in how the deaths are arranged, and a contest of minds as well.

You might wonder how the script will uphold traditional values while condemning the failures of our system of right and wrong. You might also cringe at the torture porn, but you will never be bored by what is a fairly entertaining “B” movie worth at least two potatoes this fall season.
