St. John’s United Methodist Church holds cooking class
St. John’s United Methodist Church presents the last of the church’s Let’s Cook series, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at the church’s fellowship hall, 2020 Beaumont St., Jacksonville.
Saturday’s class is Nutritious Soups with Herbs. Cooking techniques and demonstrations will be featured.
The class is free and open to anyone in the community interested in learning more about preparing nutritional meals on a shoe-string budget.
Baby sitting is available for children ages 6 and younger. Call 903-586-5335 or 903-586-9303 to sign up for the class or for more information.
Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church holds blood drive
The Lifesaving Mission: Possible will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1023 Corinth Road, Jacksonville.
Photo ID will be required to donate blood. Donators should remember to eat well before donating blood.
Donors will be able to take advantage of free cholesterol tests and will receive a free shirt. Health screenings will be held inside the church. The Carter BloodCare donor bus will be outside in the parking area.
Give blood during May and June for a weekly chance to win a 10-pack of movie tickets or a grand prize of free movie passes for a year, from Carter BloodCare.
Mt. Selman begins special events with fish fry and baked good auction
Mt. Selman Baptist Church will hold its annual fish fry and baked goods auction beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3. The auction will begin at 6:45 p.m. The cost of a fish dinner is $6.50 for ages 10 and above and all take-outs are $7. there will be lots of homemade baked goods to be auctioned off. Anna Traylor will provide entertainment. The proceeds will be used in the completion of the youth room.
On Sunday, May 4, the church will participate in Great Day Across Texas. This is Jacksonville College Emphasis Day and the entire church will join in hearing about Jacksonville College and taking a special offering during morning services to show support for the college. There will be a special speaker from Jacksonville College. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. and worship begins at 11.
On Mother’s Day, May 11, the church will have a special service, during which all mothers attending will receive a gift.
Then, on Sunday, May 18, the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class will honor Pastor Doug Cummings and his wife, Rasha, with a baby shower in the afternoon. They are expecting their first child in June.
Gallatin Church of Christ holds revival
on Sunday
Gallatin Church of Christ invites the community to the last services of its Revival Meeting this Sunday.
Evangelist Shawn Zybach, of Allison, Texas, will be preaching twice on Sunday, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
A pot-luck lunch will also be held on Sunday between services at the Gallatin Community Center on Farm-to-Market Road 768 in Gallatin.
The church is located at 806 S. Dry Creek Road in Gallatin.
Rocky Springs MBC has prayer breakfast
Rocky Springs Missionary Baptist Church will have its Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, May 4. The church is located one-half mile west of Dialville on FM 1910.
Lewis and Lewis in concert Monday at Tabernacle of Praise
Lewis and Lewis will be in concert at 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Tabernacle of Praise, 532 S. Bolton in Jacksonville. From Nashville, Tenn., they have songs recorded by The Happy Goodman Family, The Kingsmen Quartet, The Dixie Melody Boys, Doug Oldham and Grand Ole Opry star Connie Smith. First Baptist-Rusk
welcomes CBU choir, orchestra
The California Baptist University Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Gary Bonner, will be in concert at First Baptist Church in Rusk at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6. The public is invited for this outstanding musical performance.
The CBU School of Music is one of the most exceptional choir and orchestra programs in the United States. It is known for its higher standard for academics and performance.
“The first time I saw Dr. Bonner’s choir it was the most captivating concert I had ever seen. The choir was breathing like wind through a wheat field, breathing as alive. I felt something intangible, but I knew it was there,” said the Rev. Lance Gaskill, pastor of Worship Arts at Greeley Wesleyan Church in Greeley, Colo.
Kids First Weekday Education enrolling
Kids First Weekday Education is now enrolling for the 2008-09 school year. Classes are available for children ages 2 years, 3 years and Pre-K. Hours are 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Central BC registering for Children’s Care
Central Baptist Church is now taking applications for the Fall 2008 semester of Central Children’s Care which will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central Children’s Care programming is planned for ages 3 months through pre-Kindergarten with the goal of helping them in their mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual development. River of Life School of Ministry enrolling
River of Life School of Ministry in Rusk is a coeducational, inter-denominational, two year Bible College. River of Life Christian Church in Rusk has recently opened a Healing Room in which they offer prayer free of charge to anyone in need of healing.
