BBQ luncheon at Tabernacle of Praise

Tabernacle of Praise Church will serve a barbecue lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at the church, 532 S. Bolton, Jacksonville. Plates are $7 and include a choice of brisket or chicken breast, potato salad, baked beans, a choice of chocolate cake, banana pudding or chocolate or coconut pie and a beverage. Guest minister at First Assembly of God

Jason McGehee will be ministering Sunday morning at First Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville. Jason grew up in a pastor’s home, began preaching in 2001, and became a full-time staff member at his home church in Whitney in 2004. Jason has also traveled as a missionary to Armenia, Egypt, Figi, Thailand, Israel and India.

Sunday service begins at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Church softball league expanding to ‘Cherokee Challenge’

The Jacksonville Church Softball League is excited to announce a new format to our schedule. this new format will allow the league to offer more events this year.

In addition to softball, there will be volleyball, golf, horseshoes and bowling. this event will be called “The Cherokee County Church Challenge.” All proceeds will go to the HOPE-Manna Pantry Soup Kitchen.

All churches are encouraged to participate as we promote unity of spirit, fellowship in the body and meet some needs in the community.

There will be a meting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Woodland Heights baptist Church on Highway 204 in Jacksonville.

Calvary Kids’ Club begins in September for school-aged children

Calvary Kids' Club will begin Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Calvary Baptist Church, 122 Tena, Jacksonville. School aged children from the area are invited and encouraged to attend each Wednesday during the school year from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (No club meetings when students are on holiday from school).

During Calvary Kids' Club students are taught the Bible, challenged to learn Scripture, enjoy a time of games and physical challenges, sing some choruses and have a snack. Clean, wholesome, spiritual and friendship building fun.

There is an adult Bible study in the sanctuary during the same hour.

There will also be a water-filled gallon jar with a small glass in it and as the "Kids" sign in each week they have a chance to drop a quarter in the jar and if it lands in the glass they get a treat. Although not a requirement, pre-registration may be done any Sunday 9:45 a.m.

David Anderson is director of Calvary Kids' Club; Bobby Bateman is director of game time, Pam Anderson is youth director.

Women of Grace

Worldwide Day of Healing on Sept. 20

Jacksonville’s Life Changing Ministries will participate in a World Wide Day of Healing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

People who would like to have prayers said for them or anyone else with health issues can participate in the drive-through healing at 423 S. Main St., at the corner of Main and Nacogdoches streets in Jacksonville.

Prayer teams will be outside for drive-through prayer and healing. Refreshments will be served.

The event is being sponsored in part by The Healing Center of Nacogdoches and Life Changing MInistries.

Pastor of Life Changing Ministries in Jacksonville is Judy Traylor. Service times are 10 a.m. Sunday, 6 p.m. Monday and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.



Bowens Temple to have celebration banquet for pastor Sept. 27

The pastor and members of the Bowens Temple Church family invite the public to the first appreciation banquet for Pastor Chester Whitaker for his 20 years of service to the Jacksonville community.

The event is at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce St., Jacksonville.

Kids First Weekday Education enrollment

Kids First Weekday Education is now enrolling for the 2008-09 school year. Classes are available for children ages 2 years, 3 years and Pre-K. Hours are 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The school is education-based and all classes use the A Beka Curriculum.

Central Children’s Care registration

Central Baptist Church is now taking applications for the Fall 2008 semester of Central Children’s Care which will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central Children’s Care programming is planned for ages 3 months through pre-Kindergarten with the goal of helping them in their mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual development.
