Perry’s prayer plan should be supported

JACKSONVILLE — I am so tired of being worried, upset and depressed about the future of our nation. There has to be hope somewhere.

For a while now, I’ve been hearing about this prayer gathering Rick Perry is trying to promote. I’m not a big fan of Rick Perry. He’s made some big mistakes as governor of our state, but when he is right, it is important to support him.

It was reported that the president had a cross covered up that was in the background where he was making a speech in order to not offend anyone. By doing so, he offended me and a lot of other believers. When did Christianity become the enemy of our government?

I’ve seen pictures of the buildings and monuments in Washington, D.C., and they have God’s name and His words literally cut in stone. If our founding fathers were not Bible-believing Christians, then why did they do all that?

Just like you, I questioned Rick Perry’s reasons and motives for calling this prayer meeting in Houston on Aug. 6. What is he up to? Is he trying to get his name known so he can run for president? If that be the case, why a prayer meeting when Christianity is so unpopular these days?

Only God knows his heart and only God can judge him. We are mere fruit inspectors.

I don’t know his reasoning, but I know I would love to be there. There is no doubt in my mind that prayer is our way out of this mess that our nation is in. God promised in His word that if his people would repent and pray, He would hear from Heaven and heal our land. That’s good enough for me.

I’m always uncomfortable putting God to the test, but He said to try him, put Him to the test, see if He won’t pour us out blessings we won’t even be able to receive. His words, not mine.

You don’t have to be a fan of Rick Perry nor a Republican ro support this prayer meeting. You don’t even have to be there. The Lord will always find someone to get His word out there, and if it be Rick Perry, so be it. Regardless of your opinion of our governor, I hope you will all pray God will bless this meeting.

Just like a child, I’m asking God for great and wonderful things that day. Perhaps the skies over Texas will open up and rain on this drought-stricken, parched land. I know how God feels about us asking for a sign, but I also know He put a rainbow in the sky as a sign.

It’s hard for me to think positive thoughts about our nation. Hard to believe we have a great future ahead of us. All we ever hear is the negative, and I’m tired to death of that. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to think good thoughts about our nation and look forward to the future. I don’t know how that can possibly be, but I know my God is able.

  • Where to look in the Bible when we are in danger

When we are in danger, read Psalm 91. Verses 9-13 tell us some of the ways the Lord protects us, “If you say, ‘The LORD is my refuge, and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.  For he will command His angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.”

  • Beal web.jpg Prayer request challenge extended

Grace Beal of Cuney drops her prayer request in her church’s prayer request box. She has extended her challenge for prayer requests. The minister of the New Testament Holiness Church at 160 CR 3510 has been holding open air services each night at the church. The services are held at 6:30 p.m. Beal said people should “believe God. He is the one who will answer prayers.” People may drop prayer requests in the box in front of the church.

  • What would you ask of God?

If God spoke to you and told you could ask Him for one thing and He would grant it, what would you ask for?  Before you read any further, take some time to think about that question.  If the Creator of all there is offered to grant you one request, what would you consider the ultimate gift from Almighty God?

  • Listening for that trumpet call

I was awakened recently by a loud blast that sounded like a horn blowing.  Guess what my first thought was.  Yep, I wondered, “Is this it?  Is that the trumpet call?”
