BROWNSBORO — The Jacksonville boys and girls competed in the recent Brownsboro Bears powerlifting meet.
The girls teams came away with the championship trophy. The girls teams was led by seniors Teara Perkins and Jessica McIntyre and Junior Meisha Haynes. Perkins won the 123-pound class with a total of 650 and McIntyre won the 148-pound with a total of 805 pounds Haynes won the 165-class with a total of 635. Freshman Jami Foster, Briana Stiefer and Payton Wacha finished second, third and fifth in the 97-pound class. Sophomore Amanda Smith finished second in the 114-pound class. Junior Ashleigh Lewis finished fourth in the 123 class. Seniors Brittany McAnally and Skyla Singleton finished fifth and third in their respected class. McIntyre was the best overall lifter in the girls division.
The boys competed extremely well for this being the first meet of the year. Leon Jones finished third in the 181-class with a total of 1,250, including a best of 500-pound in the deadlift. Also placing in the meet was Bo Cruz who finished fifth in the 181-pound class. Brandon Perkins and Justin Jones also competed well finishing in sixth place in their respected divisions.
The boys will travel this week to Elkhart to compete in the First Elks Powerlifting Meet. They will travel to Palestine on Feb. 2 to compete in the Wildcat Invitational.
