Jags sign five new basketball players

Jacksonville College athletic director and men’s basketball coach Greg Young announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letter of Intents to play next season for the Jaguars. The following have signed this spring with Jacksonville College:

Chrys Richardson- 6-1, guard from Polytechnic High School-Fort Worth.

Richardson averaged 18.3 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, 3.4 assists per game, and 4.1 steals per game during the 2007-2008 year. He was named District 7-4A Newcomer of the year and first team all-district is junior season and 7-4A All District this past season 2007-2008.

Kevin Hinsey- 6-4, wing from Fayetteville Christian H.S. - Fayetteville, Ark.

Hinsey averaged 25 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and 5 assists per game during his senior season 2007-2008. He was named first team all-district, first team all-region, and first team all-state in 2007-2008. He was named the regional tournament MVP this season and helped Fayetteville Christian to a State Championship his junior year.

Matt Billups- 6-1, combo-guard from Los Lunas H.S.-Los Lunas, New Mexico

He averaged 21 points per game and 6 assists per game his senior season 2007-2008. He was named First Team 5A All-State; He was first-team All-district three consecutive years. Also named the 2007-2008 Albuquerque Metro 5A Player of the Year. Billups has been selected to play in New Mexico North/South All-Star Game this July. He received the NMAA “Pursuing Victory with Honor” award this year.

Bryce Hill 6-2- guard from Clovis H.S. - Clovis, N.M.

He averaged 19 points per game, and 5 rebounds per game his senior season 2007-2008. Bryce was named first-team all- district and 5A first team all- state this year. Bryce set a New Mexico state record for 3 pointers made in a career and is the third leading scorer in Clovis High School history. Bryce has been selected to play in the New Mexico North/South game this July and is a McDonalds All-American Nominee. Clovis H.S. lost to Hobbs in the Class 5A New Mexico state championship game this season.

Julian Bassett 6-8- post from Parkview H.S.-Little Rock, Ark.

Bassett averaged 10 points per game, 7 rebounds per game, and 2.2 blocks per game his senior season 2007-2008. He was named first-team all conference and help lead Parkview to third round of the class 5A State Tournament in Arkansas.

“We are very excited about these young men and their decision to come to Jacksonville College next year. They are all quality people and players and fit the core values of our institution. We feel like they will all make an immediate impact on the floor for the Jags next year. Coach Cinco Boone has done an outstanding job and has been very instrumental in each of these student-athletes recruitment. We still have work to do in recruiting and look for the Jaguars to sign several more this spring and summer.” said Young.
