Two Indians on all-district baseball team

Jacksonville placed two players on the the 2008 12-4A All-District Baseball Team.
Infielder/ pitcher Terrence Canady was named to the first team while pitcher/infielder Frankie Almendarez made the second team.
Hallsville Bobcat junior Trevor Petersen was named league Most Valuable Player, while teammate Josh Schattel was picked as the Offensive Player of the Year. Pine Tree’s Brett McAfee received Freshman of the Year honors.
The team was selected by the league’s coaches.
Petersen batted .366 with six home runs, 38 RBI and a .500 on-base percentage. On the mound, Petersen went 11-3, including eight complete games and three shutouts, with a 2.03 earned run average and three saves in 81 2/3 innings.
Schattel hit .429 with five homers, all of which came in 12-4A play, and 33 RBI. Schattel, a senior, had more walks (22) than strikeouts (16), helping him to a .649 on-base percentage. He also had a .714 slugging percentage.
McAfee played shortstop and pitcher for the Pirates, going 3-3-1 on the mound with a 1.88 ERA, 31 strikeouts and 10 walks in 481/3 innings. He hit .471 with two homers, 17 RBI and nine stolen bases, adding a .541 on-base percentage and .691 slugging percentage.
District champion Nacogdoches claimed the other superlative honors — Cody Lock (Pitcher of the Year), Stewart Hill (Defensive Player of the Year), Chase Wallace (Newcomer of the Year) and Todd Sparks (Coach of the Year).
Hallsville’s Chase Jordan (designated hitter) and outfielder Colton Roberts were first-team picks, joining PT outfielder Max Standifer.
Kilgore placed three Bulldogs on the first team — Chris Dudley (catcher), Nick Sullivan (infielder) and Danny Sharpe (pitcher). Henderson had five first-teamers in Jim Gossett (first base), Matt Free (infielder), Brock Vinson (utility), Tyrell Jenkins (outfielder) and Weldon Davis (pitcher), while Marshall had two in Jackson Hood (first base) and Beau Bayliss (pitcher).
Other first-team picks were: Jacksonville’s Canady; Whitehouse’s Seth Cashion (catcher), Ryan Bell (infielder) and Kevan House (outfielder) and Nacogdoches’ Justin McAninch (infielder), Jake Skeeters (outfielder) and Randy Franks (pitcher).
