Bullard bombs Lady Bears in three

GLADEWATER — The Bullard Lady Panthers got back on the winning track Tuesday night by scoring a convincing 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-15) road victory over Gladewater. The Lady Panthers now stand 21-9, 3-1 in District 17-3A, as they prepare to entertain Gilmer at 4:30 p.m. tonight at Panther Gymnasium. Following tonight’s match, Bullard will enter a crucial stretch of district games, traveling to Chapel Hill Tuesday — the Lady Panthers and the Lady Bulldogs are currently tied for second in the loop standings — followed by a road match at Tatum on Oct. 16. On Oct. 23 Bullard will welcome league-leading Spring Hill into Panther Gymnasium.



Lady Guard earn district win over Garland Christian

BULLARD — Brook Hill ran their TAPPS, District 4-3A, record to 5-4 (6-11 overall) by shutting out Garland Christian Academy 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-20) Tuesday evening at the Herrington Gymnasium. Baylee Rozell (eight kills) and Amy Jo Teague (six kills) ignited the Lady Guard on offense with M.C. Selden and Erica Eden each putting down four spikes as well. Brook Hill was scheduled to face Dallas Shelton at home on Thursday night.



LMC linksters finish sixth at Mary Hardin-Baylor tourney

SALADO — Lon Morris College placed sixth in the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational, held Tuesday at the Mill Creek Country Club in Salado. The tournament was won by Tyler Junior College with a score of 588 (287-301). The Bearcats finished at 601 (298-303). Jason Hamilton led LMC with a 147 (72-75) as did Michael Haney (76-71). Hamilton and Haney finished tied for tenth place. Other Bearcat linksters competing were, Nathan Watson (76-77, 153) who ended the day T37, and Logan Russell (77-80, 157) and Nicklaus Webb (74-83, 157) who both came in T51. Russell is a graduate of Jacksonville High School. Lubbock Christian’s Trevor Turnbow captured medalist honors, shooting a 143 (72-71).

basketball talents now in Red River Athletic Conference

Brian Wanamaker and Lance Murphy, both formerly of Lon Morris College and Brian Sanders, previously of Jacksonville College, will all be suiting up for teams in the Red River Athletic Conference (NAIA) this season. Wanamaker will be playing for Texas Wesleyan University (Fort Worth) while Sanders and Murphy will be teammates at San Antonio’s Our Lady of the Lake University. Wanamaker, originally out of Philadelphia, Pa. led the Bearcats in assists (4.2) and steals (2.2) last year and is expected to play point guard for the Rams, who finished with a 29-5 record last year, winning their second-consecutive conference title. Sanders, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior from Houston and Murphy, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound junior, could see their first action of the fall when the Saints open the season on Nov. 4 by hosting University of St. Thomas.
