HENDERSON — Jacksonville started out strong in the opening set but could not finish off things as Henderson rallied late to nip the Maidens 25-23 in Game 1 Tuesday night at Lion Gymnasiium.
The following two games were a different story as the Lady Lions posted their first District 14-4A win of the season, 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-8), over Jacksonville which slips to 1-3 in conference (5-14 overall) with the defeat.
The Maidens went in front 13-7 in the opener before Henderson reeled off an 8-0 run to go up 15-13.
Jacksonville was not done, however, as the Maidens came back to tie the game at 18 before reestablishing the lead at 21-18.
Behind a late 7-2 rally, the Lady Lions were able to extract the two-point decision over the Maidens.
The Maidens fell behind 7-0 in both of the final two games to back themselves into a corner they could not get out.
The Maidens return home for a date at 430 p.m. Friday with Whitehouse, which entered Tuesday’s play tied for first-place in the league standings along with Lindale.
