Area Roundup: Troup journeys to rival Arp for marquee matchup; Can Eagles and Panthers improve to 4-0?

JACKSONVILLE — Brook Hill Guard (2-0) at Spring Hill Panthers (1-2)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium in Longview

Coaches — Terry Pirtle, Brook Hill; Bobby Chadwick, Spring Hill

Last Week — Brook Hill 24, Garrison 20; White Oak 22, Spring Hill 21

Next Week — Brook Hill at Tyler T.K. Gorman; Henderson at Spring Hill

Game Notes: After posting wins over a couple of UIL Class 2A schools (Frankston and Garrison), the Guard test a UIL Class 3A entity its week...Brook Hill had to rally in the closing minute a week ago to avoid and upset at the hands of the Bulldogs...Look for the Guard to be much more focused in this one, especially with district play starting next week...This will be the Guard's first road game of 2012...In Brook Hill's lone road scrimmage, the guard had no trouble in defeating Center, who is 3-0 now...This will be a bit of a homecoming for Pirtle as he previously coached at Longview Pine Tree...Chadwick is in his first year at Spring Hill after reviving a long-dormant program at Ore City...Spring Hill finished 2-8 in 2011, while the Guard won the TAPPS Division III state championship.

Troup Tigers (3-0) at Arp Tigers (2-1)

7:30 p.m. at Bill Herrington Tiger Stadium in Arp

Coaches — Dennis Alexander, Troup; Dale Irwin, Arp

Last Week — Troup 41, Quitman 0; Arp 42, Elysian Fields 14

Next Week — Troup at Huntington; Garrison at Arp

Game Notes: Bill Herrington Stadium has a listed capacity of 1,000 and it could be standing room only before the night is over as these Highway 110 rivals get back together to battle for gridiron supremacy for the first time in 4 years...Both of these clubs are known as the Tigers and both share the same colors of maroon and white...Troup coach Dennis Alexander won his 325th career game last week...Troup is a member of District 9-2A-I, while Arp plays in District 10-2A-II...Offensively, Troup has put 108 points on the scoreboard this fall, while Arp has scored 104...Defensively, Alexanders's defenders have surrendered just 20 points while Arp has given up an average of 20 points a game...Arp will have to figure out the secret to stopping, or at least slowing down, Troup's potent multi-prong rushing attack.

One of the main things I really look forward to in the summer is locating and catching schooling bass. Schooling bass are not always easy to catch. Sometimes they are very aggressive and will react to a variety of baits. At other times they become very hard to catch. I have several baits that I rely on, but some are favorites.
