Prep Hoops Roundup: Hornets open season with win over Broaddus; Lady Panthers move to 2-0

New Summerfield 40, Broaddus 37 — The Hornets of New Summerfield kicked off the Sunny Hardy era by clipping Broaddus, 40-37, in Broaddus Tuesday night. Neither club was able to muster a lead of any size in the hotly-contest. New Summerfield's defense made some key stops late in the game that allowed the Hornets to open the season with the victory. Wendle Thomas pumped in 15 points and Case Wilkerson added 11 for the Hornets. The Hornets took the junior varsity game, 34-28.New Summerfield plays Riverdale Academy of Louisiana at 1 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the New Summerfield Tip-Off Tournament.


Lindale 53, Bullard 43 — Lindale outscored Ballard 28-20 in the second half to carve out a 53-43 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. Bullard (0-1) led 18-9 after the first eight minutes of play, with the Eagles (1-0) taking a 25-23 advantage into the locker room at the half. Hunter Landrum paced Bullard with 16 points while Andrew Thomas added nine, followed by Slater Rodberg with six. Lindale's jacob Capo led his squad with 15 points. The Eagles also won the junior varsity game, 45-20.



Bullard 59, Brownsboro 41 — It was a case of too much Lexi for the Bearettes of Brownsboro Tuesday night as Bullard's Lexie Abercrombie fired in 22 points and Lexie Kirgan wound up with 17 to spark the 2-0 Lady Panthers to a 59-41 road win over Brownsboro. Bridgette Taylor chipped in 10 points for the winners. Bullard will play in the Miller Grove Tournament (Thursday-Saturday).


Broaddus 42, New Summerfield 19 — A cold shooting streak in the second half compromised the Lady Hornets' chance at earning their first win of the season on Tuesday as host Broaddus topped the New Summerfield girls, 42-19. Leading point makers for the Lady Hornets (0-3) were Cristal Zuniga (5) and Karli McCown (4). New Summerfield is slated to take on Laneville at 9 a.m.Thursday in the opening round of the New Summerfield Tip-Off Tournament.
