JACKSONVILLE —

The Jacksonville Fightin' Indian basketball team capped off a solid week by trouncing rival Palestine, 76-48, early Friday evening at the JISD Gymnasium.

The win was the Tribe's second of the week — Jacksonville breezed by Mount Pleasant's Tigers, 71-40, Monday as the Indians average margin of victory this week was 29 points.

The Indians improved to 13-6 with the win.

Jacksonville is scheduled to play its final non-district game on Tuesday by journeying to Hallsville.

It was clear from the opening tip-off that the Wildcats were over matched in this one as Jacksonville jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back.

The Tribe led 23-10 after one quarter of play and held a 43-24 advantage at the break.

The third stanza was all about the Jacksonville defense as the Indians limited the visitors to just eight points in the period, while adding 17 to their ever-bulging total.

Nearly half of Palestine's points (21-of-48) came from the free throw line.

Datavian Thacker and Daytron Thompson were the scoring leaders for the Indians, pumping in 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Charles Kendrick, Mason McCormick and Claude Franklin added eight apiece.

Raybon Riden's six rebounds were a team-high for the Tribe.

Palestine received 15 points from Sheldon Watson.
