16-3A Hoops: Bullard teams take their lumps at Chapel Hill

 Chapel Hill and Bullard faced off on the hardwood on Tuesday night with a District 16-3A, girls and boys doubleheader at Bulldog gymnasium.


In the end, Chapel Hill made it a weep in varsity action.

The Lady Bulldogs won 49-41, followed by a thrilling 54-49, overtime win over Bullard.

Gabriel Robinson nailed a 3-pointer from the deep corner with 31-seconds left to post a 51-49 lead, before Keilon Moore added two late baskets for the 54-49 final.

Bullard will entertain Henderson on Friday night with a 6 p.m. tipoff scheduled for the girl’s game. The boys will follow immediately after that conclusion.

Chapel Hill, will travel to play at Kilgore on Friday with the girls start at 6 p.m. and the boys set for a 7 p.m.



Chapel Hill 49, Bullard 41

Kadeja Warfield and Shay Ross combined for 25-points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their fourth district win with a 49-41 win over the Lady Panthers.

Bullard took off on a 9-0 run in the opening quarter and a 12-5 Bullard lead after one period.

Maddy Slater kept the Lady Panthers in the game in the second period scoring 14 of her game-high 17-points, nailing two treys along the way.

Lady Bulldog, Kadeja Warfield came up big in the third period scoring eight-points as Chapel Hill fought back to a 33-33 tie going into the final stanza.

The Lady Bulldogs put together a 7-2 run to start the final period, as teammate Shay Ross scored six of 11-points down the stretch to up the Lady Bulldogs record to 18-8 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Bullard also got a good effort from Lexi Kirgan with eight-points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Chapel 54, Bullard 49 (OT)

Chapel Hill made their only 3-pointer of the game count as Gabriel Robinson bottomed out a trey in the closing moments to keep Chapel Hill undefeated in league play (4-0), after an intense matchup took an extra period to decide a winner.

Bullard’s, Hunter Landrum nailed two of his four, 3-pointers in the overtime period. However it was all the scoring for the Panthers in the extra stanza. Landrum finished with a game-high, 19-points, adding in nine rebounds, four steals, and one block.

Early on, Zach Eschberger came off the bench red-hot, scoring all 11-points in the game in the first half as Bullard led 26-25 at the break.

The Bulldog defense stiffened in the overtime period to force four Panther turnovers that amounted to Bulldog points.

Big postman, Keith Minor was a force inside throughout the game scoring nine-points in each half to total out scoring a team-high, 18-points. Minor added 12-rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Bulldog, Keilon Moore, canned 10 of his 12-points in the fourth quarter and in overtime to seal the win for head coach, Robert Sampson.

I think our team speed was a key for us down the stretch of the game,” said Sampson after the game. “A few times it looked like we wanted to give the game away but we didn’t, the kids did a great job of playing aggressive but smart and it really paid off in the overtime.

Bullard played a heck of a game though, and I’m really proud of the way our guys stayed in the game and picked up the intensity when we got to the overtime.”
