JHS JV Tennis: Mireles, Stickle record strong efforts

VAN — The Jacksonville junior varsity tennis team was sparked by the play of Lorena Mireles and Lexie Stickle in its most recent outing at the Van Tournament last Thursday.

Mireles, playing in girls “A” singles, earned victories over opponents from Van (8-1) and Kaufman (8-2) to punch a ducat into the semi-finals.

In that match Mireles was edged out by a player from Longview.

The final score of the match was 7-8.

In girls “B” singles, Stickle opened with an 8-2 decision over a player from Nacogdoches and then outlasted an opponent out of Whitehouse, 8-6.

Stickle then fell to a Longview representative, 8-9 in the semi-finals.

In other action, Kylie Levett & Brianna Gay went 2-2 on the afternoon in girls “A” doubles.

The Jacksonville tandem's wins came over opponents from Nacogdoches (8-1) and Wills Point (8-4).

In boys “B” doubles, the Tribe's Dustin Alexander & Dalton Thomas went 1-2 and had an 8-4 victory over a team from Spring Hill.

In girls “B” singles, Jacksonville's Taylor Rush logged a 1-2 slate, with her win coming over a young lady from Canton (6-0).
