JC men's basketball team adds experience via Iowa JUCO transfer

JACKSONVILLE —

Having a myriad of first-year collegiate players signed for the 2013-14 season, Jacksonville College head men's basketball coach Jody Bailey recognized the importance of adding an experienced hoopster to the lot.

So what did Bailey do?

He did the obvious by signing Marlon Cort a 6-foot-4 forward/guard who played at Southeastern Iowa Community College in West Burlington, Iowa last season.

Cort, a prep standout at George Westinghouse High School in Brooklyn, NY, will have one year of eligibility remaining at JC.

“I'm excited about this late addition with experience,” Bailey said. “To get to the end of the recruiting process and to be able to find exactly what the team needs is something exciting.”

Cort played in 24 games for the Blackhawks last season and got the starting nod 13 times.

He averaged 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per night.

Cort hit nearly 35-percent of his 3-point attempts, a number that Bailey hopes he can duplicate in the Texas Eastern Conference.

“I've been told Marlon is a very good 3-point shooter and that is something that we need,” Bailey said.
