High School Football Week 2: Area previews

Rusk to play at home for first time

JACKSONVILLE —

Eustace Bulldogs (2-0) at Rusk Eagles (0-2)

7:30 p.m. Friday Eagle Stadium in Rusk

Coaches: Heath Ragle, Eustace; Ted Patton, Rusk

Last Week: Eustace 24, Rice 8; Crockett 22, Rusk 14

Next Week: Fort Worth Castleberry at Eustace; Athens at Rusk

Quick Take: Rusk showed marked improvement from a Zero Week loss to Terrell to nearly pulling off the upset over Crockett...Turnovers hurt the Eagles a week ago with Rusk coming away at minus three...DJ Glenn and Chris Sanchez scored the Eagles' touchdowns against Crockett...Glenn just missed a 100-yard rushing effort in carrying 10 times for 96 yards...The Eagles should be ready to deliver a big effort in playing before the home crowd for the first time in 2013...Ragle is in his first year as the head man in Bulldog Country...Eustace's opponents (Canton and Rice) have combined to go 0-4, so an Eagle upset is not out of the question here.

Diboll Lumberjacks (0-2) at Bullard Panthers (1-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday Panther Stadium in Bullard

Coaches: Shane Adair, Diboll; Shannon Wilson, Bullard

Last Week: Corrigan-Camden 28, Diboll 14; White Oak 35, Bullard 14

Next Week: Shepard at Diboll; Bullard at Huntington

Quick Take: It's homecoming at Bullard this week, so the Lumberjacks seem like an ideal opponent to keep the Panther loyalists grinning all night...The Diboll defense gave up 70 points in Zero Week...Appears to be a good week for the Panthers to try and develop some additional weapons on offense as QB Connor Mebane has supplied most of his team's fire power thus far...The Panthers won last year's meeting, 14-0.

Troup Tigers (1-1) at Quitman Bulldogs (0-2)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Bud Moody Stadium in Quitman

Coaches: Dennis Alexander, Troup; Rod Callahan, Quitman

Last Week: Troup 48, West Rusk 16; Redwater 16, Quitman 8

Next Week: Arp at Troup; Quitman at Mineola

Quick Take: Coach Alexander seemed to get the ole Tiger train back on track last week and it's highly probable that the Tigers keep rolling this week...Blake Lynch strutted his stuff both on the ground and through the air in the win over West Rusk while the Maroon defenders did a nice job in holding the Raiders to just 16 points...Bulldogs are averaging just 14 points a game...Quitman nearly upset Class 3A Bullard in Zero Week, losing 21-20 in the final minute.
